My name is Chris Griffith and this is my third year working in the Batavia School District. I grew up on the North Shore of Illinois in a town called Lake Bluff. Just after I turned 14 I started playing electric bass in my friend's band and played only two gigs. Throughout high school I was in and out of punk bands, ska bands, heavy metal bands, and any other band that would let me in.
I began taking Double Bass lessons at Illinois State University with one of the most influential teachers in my life, Dr. William Koehler. While in college I again joined as many different musical groups as possible including Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Jazz bands, and a recorder ensemble!
I graduated from ISU in 2009 and, after graduating, was hired to teach 5th and 6th Grade Orchestra in Yorkville. I had the pleasure of serving as the 5th and 6th Grade Orchestra Director in Yorkville for seven years before starting my position as Middle School Orchestra Director in Batavia.
You will also see me on stage playing my bass with the Fox Valley Orchestra, the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra, and a variety of other local orchestras as well. Check out the video of me playing a very difficult piece of music with the Fox Valley Orchestra!
In addition to music I spend my time reading about Space, gadgets, and all things Science. I enjoy reading Science Fiction and Comic Books...yep. Additionally, I enjoy playing video games, gardening, camping, and woodworking. I live with my lovely wife, Nissa, our dog Zissou, and our two cats, Chainsaw and Spaghetti.
Skip ahead to about 1:10 to hear the fireworks.
